According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), in March 2018, El Paso had an unemployment rate of 4.5%, down from 4.6% in January though still somewhat above the national average. The BLS reported in May 2016 that the city's average hourly wage was $18.00, well below the national rate of $23.86 at that time.
