Career Information

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects employment of biomedical engineers will grow 4% from 2018-2028, while environmental engineers and chemical engineers should see employment increases of 5% and 6% respectively, and electrical engineering is projected to grow 2% in job growth during the same decade. The BLS states that increasing possibilities brought by new technologies and increasing applications to medical equipment and devices account for the particularly high number of opportunities predicted in biomedical engineering.

Licensure and Certification

The BLS states that engineers working with the public must be licensed. To become licensed, graduates of an ABET-accredited program can take the initial exam offered through the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. After gaining four years of experience, engineers will qualify for the Principles of Practice of Engineering exam and become professional engineers.
