Five Scholarships You Should Apply for in April

Need more money for college? There are still plenty of organizations holding scholarship contests. Here is a list of five scholarships you should apply for this month.

1. Financial Literacy Scholarship

Financial Literacy Online just launched a new scholarship program in conjunction with National Financial Literacy Month. The program will award monthly scholarships valued at $500 each to students who have completed Financial Literacy Online's free personal financial literacy courses. The courses are self-paced, can be taken online and are available now through December 31, 2010.

2. Stuck at Prom Scholarship

Duck Tape is holding their 10th annual Stuck at the Prom Scholarship Contest. The company will be giving away 20 scholarships to 10 high school prom couples. The total value of all 20 prizes is $28,500.00. To be considered for a scholarship, high school couples (aged 14 and up) must submit pictures of themselves dressed in prom attire made entirely of duct tape. 3. Platinum Torch National Service Honorary Scholarship

The Platinum Torch National Service Honorary is awarding three $500 scholarships to high school seniors and college students planning to attend a university, college, junior college or vocational school. Winners are chosen based on volunteer efforts. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is May 1, 2010.

4. Red Vines Scholarship

Red Vines (makers of tasty licorice snacks) hosts a new drawing contest each year. The contest is divided into three age groups: kids (ages 6-12), teens (ages 13-18) and adults (19+). Participants who win first prize in their age group receive a $2,500 scholarship and a Red Vines prize pack. This year's contest began April 1, 2010 and will end on September 30, 2010.

5. Home Depot Trade Scholarship

Home Depot will be awarding $1,000 trade school scholarships to 500 students in 2010. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be enrolled in building or construction trade school programs at vocational schools, technical schools, colleges or universities. Prizes will be awarded to students with exceptional academic performance, leadership and work experience. The deadline to apply for a Home Depot trade scholarship is April 30, 2010.
