Often billed as the 'top travel destination in the world', Florida also boasts a large population: over 21 million in 2020 according to latest estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. At 14.5%, the state's unemployment rate, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in April of 2020, is slightly above the national rate. As of May 2019, the BLS reports, the average hourly rate of pay for Florida employees was $22.96.

Florida's Fastest-Growing Careers

The highest number of fastest-growing careers in Florida are in the healthcare field, which is not surprising given that nearly 21% of the population was over the age of 65 in the 2019 census. Based on information provided by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), the following are among the careers what will see the most growth over the 2019-2027 period:

  • Home Health Aides
  • Medical Assistants
  • Health Specialties Teachers, Postsecondary
  • Physical Therapist Assistants
  • Personal Care Aides
  • Nursing Instructors and Teachers, Postsecondary
  • Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides
  • Occupational Therapy Assistants

Florida Jobs With the Most Openings
