Fort Collins is a mid-sized city located about an hour's drive north of Denver. The city is known for its high quality of life and educated populace. Based on 2014 U.S. Census Bureau estimates, Fort Collins had a population of more than 156,000 people.

The city's proximity to the Colorado Rockies provides Fort Collins residents with nearly unlimited opportunities for hiking, camping, skiing and pursuing other outdoors activities. Not all the entertainment is up in the hills, though; Fort Collins offers many cultural attractions such as the Lincoln Center, a performing arts venue that hosts musical and theatrical performances and features a sculpture garden and several galleries. There are also a number of microbreweries in the city, contributing to Colorado's reputation as a destination for beer lovers.

Fort Collins Higher Education

U.S. News & World Report ranked Colorado State University (CSU) the 61st best public school in the country in 2016. The publication also recognized CSU's online graduate programs in computer information technology and business (except MBAs), ranked number 30 and 37, respectively. CSU's nearly 32,000 students can pursue bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees.

The Larimer campus of Front Range Community College also is located in Fort Collins. Almost 10,000 students attend classes at this campus, and the school's associate's degree programs are guaranteed to transfer to all 4-year, public schools in the state.

Employment in Fort Collins

Fort Collins has a diverse selection of major employers that fuel local economic growth and stability. One of the largest employers in the city is Colorado State University. High-tech companies like Hewlett Packard and Advanced Energy are also major sources of employment. In addition, a major Anheuser-Busch brewery is located within the city limits. The city of Fort Collins actively supports small businesses and entrepreneurs, and many independent shops and start-ups call the area home.
