Glen Allen, Virginia, is located about ten miles northwest of Richmond and just under a hundred miles from Washington D.C. In 2010, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that 14,774 people resided in Glen Allen. The city is composed of about 8.8 square miles of land, and about 66% of the population is between the ages of 18 and 64. The median household income is $68,101, according to 2010-2014 census data.

The city's coldest weather generally occurs in late December or early January, with low temperatures usually in the upper 20s and high temperatures reaching the upper 40s. Summertime temperatures average 87 degrees and occasionally go into the 90s.

Residents and visitors have a wide variety of options when it comes to recreation and entertainment activities in this city. Rich in American history, Glen Allen is home to many historical sites that offer a glimpse into the nation's early days. The nearby Virginia State Fair and NASCAR racetrack entertain thousands of residents and visitors every year.

Glen Allen has local branches of four proprietary schools within its city limits. Its close proximity to Richmond opens up a host of educational options, including University of Richmond, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and Virginia Union University.

Virginia Union University was also ranked by U.S. News, coming in at 43rd on the publication's list of historically black colleges and universities.

Another top school in the area is Virginia Commonwealth University, which was ranked 84th in 2016 on U.S. News' list of top public schools. This 4-year school has bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs and enrolls around 31,000 students.
