Electrician classes and training materials commonly include instruction in circuitry, magnetism, and electrical safety, among other subjects. Some of the resources below are free college courses (though no academic credit is available upon their completion), while others are resources, such as free textbooks or online guides. Materials or course sessions may be downloadable, accessible online, or viewable in video format.

Basic Electrical Technology at the Indian Institute of Science - Bangalore

This course is available via 39 video lectures, each about an hour long, that may be viewed online or downloaded as MP4 or 3GP files. Topics addressed include transformer basics, DC motors, and Kirchoff's law, among others.

Basic Electrical Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur

Divided into ten main modules with numerous lessons within each, this course covers electric and magnetic circuits, induction motors, resonance, measuring instruments, and more. Each lesson plan is downloadable in PDF form, and many contain practice questions at the end (some with solutions provided).

Circuits and Electronics at MIT

This free course, one of several from MIT that are relevant to electrician training, offers instruction in circuit analysis, digital abstraction, and amplifiers. Students have access to 50-minute video lectures, which can be downloaded in MP4 format, as well as corresponding transcripts that are downloadable as PDF files. Not all course lecture sessions may be available. In addition, optional homework assignments and quizzes are available as PDF files.

Circuit Theory at the Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi

A series of 51 video lectures cover topics including signals and systems, magnetically coupled circuits, single tuned circuits, and double tuned circuits. Problem solving lectures are included after every 2-4 lectures to help students apply the material from the previous lectures. Lectures may be downloaded or viewed online.

Electricity and Magnetism at African Virtual University

This class is one of three electricity-related courses available at African Virtual University and covers capacitance, electrical potential, and direct current concepts. The course module, which includes exercises with solutions, may be viewed online or downloaded in Microsoft Word or PDF format. Introductory lectures are available as QuickTime videos or viewable on YouTube.

Electrical Safety Basics at OSHAcademy

This online instructional tool offers lessons on various safety topics, including electrical shock, burns, and workplace risks. Each lesson includes a quiz, with answers and explanations provided upon completion. A 64-page study guide is viewable online and a final exam, largely derived from quiz questions and solutions, is available, though registration on the site is required to access it.

Lessons In Electric Circuits at Open Book Project

The six volumes of the 'Lessons in Electric Circuits' textbook are available for viewing online or for individual download as PDF files. The volumes contain information on ladder logic, semiconductors, conversion factors, and various types of circuits, to name a few topics. Some volumes contain incomplete chapters.

Soldering Guide at MIT

This tutorial is part of a group of high school courses developed by MIT and teaches students how to make basic solders in electronic devices. Through pictures and descriptions, students can see how to hold wire in the stripper, solder together two wires, and clean the soldering gun.
