School Information

Aspiring behavior analysts may find programs in the subject at some of the top schools in the country. Programs are commonly found at the master's level, but some schools offer bachelor's and doctoral degrees as well. Auburn University, Western Michigan University, California State University in Sacramento, and Florida Institute of Technology are four of the top schools for behavior analysis in the U.S. Each of these schools offers a master's program in behavior analysis, with Western Michigan University and Florida Institute of Technology also offering doctoral programs. All four are highly ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

Auburn University in Auburn, AL

Auburn University ranked among the top 50 on U.S. News & World Report's 2017 list of the best public schools in the country. The university's Department of Psychology offers a Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis in Developmental Disabilities, which takes 12 months to complete. The program prepares students to take the Behavior Analysis Certification Board exam. Students take courses in behavioral pharmacology and applied psychology and work in an off-site training program. Coursework includes 24 semester hours and practicum training that adds 18 credit hours.

Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI

The national research university enrolls 24,000 students in the U.S. and from 100 different countries. U.S. News & World Report ranked Western Michigan University among the top 125 on its list of top public schools in the nation for 2017. The school offers a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis with specializations in behavioral medicine and developmental disabilities. The Master of Arts program combines coursework with research to prepare students to work in mental health, educational, and government settings. The Ph.D. program offers additional research and training opportunities, which can lead to positions in teaching or human services.

California State University in Sacramento, CA

The school has one of the most sought-after psychology programs in Northern California. U.S. News & World Report ranked California State University in Sacramento 82nd on its 2017 list of regional universities in the West and 28th on its list of top public schools. Sacramento State offers a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Psychology program with a specialization in applied behavior analysis. Students explore principles and concepts of behavior analysis and take courses in behavioral problem assessment, experimental analysis, and experimental design. Clinical training is provided at autism centers, children's hospitals, and related locations. Specializations are also offered in industrial and organizational psychology and doctoral preparation.

Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL

Florida Institute of Technology has a virtual campus that offers online degrees. The school ranked among the top 200 on U.S. News & World Report's 2017 list of the best national universities. The school offers a Master of Arts in Professional Behavior Analysis in which the coursework is completed online through an in-person practicum that must be completed at a behavioral analysis agency. Graduates of the program may sit for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst exam. Florida Tech also offers a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behavior Analysis, a Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis, a dual Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis and Organizational Behavior Management, a Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis, and graduate certificates in applied behavior analysis.
