About Martinsville

Located close to North Carolina's northern border, Martinsville is a small city of 12,554 residents, as of 2019 U.S. census estimates. In 2019, almost 49% of residents were white, 47% were African American and 5.4% were Hispanic. The median household income was $33,224 compared to the state median of $71,564, according to census info for 2014-2018.

Residents and visitors to Martinsville enjoy the Martinsville Speedway, which hosts NASCAR races among other events. With one park per square mile in the city, residents have access to walking trails, biking paths, tennis courts, playgrounds and ball fields. The TGIF concert series is a popular event that offers outdoor concerts in the summer. Martinsville is home to the Virginia Museum of Natural History and the city-owned baseball team, The Mustangs, while numerous lakes can be found nearby.
