Program Information and Requirements

Students can complete an online MBA degree in general management in 2-3 years, depending on the length of the program. Many schools cater to part-time students with full-time jobs, allowing them to take one course at a time. In most cases, coursework is 100% online and asynchronous, meaning students can access it during the most convenient times for them. Online students can interact with their classmates and instructors through chat rooms and forums and even complete team projects.

Career Information for Graduates

Graduates of online general management MBA programs can work as general or operations managers, chief executive officers, management analysts and senior project leaders. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of management analysts is expected to grow 14% between 2014 and 2024, which is much faster than the average for all occupations (www.bls.gov). Also according to the BLS, as of May 2015, the average annual wage for management analysts was $91,770.

Continuing Education Information

Students who wish to become university-level business instructors or conduct research in industry or academia may consider pursuing a Doctor of Management (D.M.) or Ph.D. in Management. The Ph.D. is common for those entering academia, whereas the D.M. is a more practical degree designed for professionals seeking leadership positions in business. Entirely online, D.M. and Ph.D. degrees in management programs are rare; most offer courses online but require students to complete on-campus residencies.

In distance learning MBA programs, students can expect to study advanced business concepts in an online classroom environment that enables coursework administration and collaboration between students while still offering necessary scheduling flexibility for working professionals.
