Essential Information

While there are no master's degree programs specifically in Health Care Education, students can enroll in a Master of Health Education program, a Master of Arts program in health education, or a Master of Science program in health education. These programs train students to raise awareness about public health concerns and address community health issues through prevention and treatment. Prior to graduation, students must fulfill an internship requirement and submit a thesis. Most programs last two years.

In order to apply, a student needs a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution. Some schools require applicants to have a single- or multiple-subject teaching credential and at least one year of teaching experience.

Continuing Education Information

Graduates with a master's degree in health education may receive professional certification from the National Commission of Health Education Credentialing. By passing a written examination, they can be designated as Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES). Health educators with CHES certification must complete 75 hours of continuing education credits every five years in order to renew this credential.
