San Antonio College is located right in the downtown area of San Antonio, TX, and is one of the oldest community colleges in the state. It's part of the Alamo Community College District and commonly referred to as SAC. Its courses and programs are divided into the areas of arts and sciences, professional and technical education, and continuing education and workforce development. The school also offers online and off-campus courses. The medical assisting programs are offered through the Allied Health Department.

The Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting program provides students with the training needed to gain an entry-level position within a hospital, physician's office or ambulatory care facility. Students learn how to prep patients for medical examinations, administer medication, take vital signs, sterilize medical equipment, manage the front desk, handle patient records and provide basic patient education. Specific courses include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, clinical procedures, medical insurance and laboratory procedures. Those seeking a certificate can pursue SAC's Medical Assisting Certificate II. Much of the medical assisting curriculum is the same as that offered in the 2-year program, without the general education credits needed to earn a degree.
