Information About Meridian

Approximately 10 miles from Boise, the city of Meridian had an estimated population of 114,161, based on 2019 U.S. Census Bureau figures. This makes it Idaho's third largest city. The adult population of Meridian (25 and older) boasts an above-average rate of high school completion, at 95.5%, while the proportion of bachelor's degree holders is also slightly higher than the state mean at 35.2%. Residents of Meridian had a median household income of $68,131, well above the median of $53,089 for all Idaho residents, for the years 2014-2018.

Meridian is located in the Treasure Valley, between the Snake River and the Rocky Mountains. Many residents hunt, fish and pursue other outdoor activities. Rafting and kayaking are popular, and good skiing can be found within an hour's drive. Meridian also has several public parks and golf courses, a public swimming pool and a stock car racetrack.

Higher Education Near Meridian

Nearby Boise is home to Boise State University, the largest university in the state. Boise State offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, including the country's only graduate degree in raptor biology. Also in Boise, Stevens-Henager College features associate's and bachelor's degree programs, and Boise Bible College offers undergraduate certificates and degrees in biblical studies and other theological and religious fields.

Other schools within a 20-mile radius of Meridian include the College of Western Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University, both in Nampa, and the College of Idaho in Caldwell.

Employment and Economy

Like the state of Idaho as a whole, Meridian's economy was once based on agriculture. Dairy businesses, fruit packing and shipping, and later timber and housing were the primary industries. Now, however, the local school district (the largest in the state) is the city's largest employer. Blue Cross of Idaho and Western States CAT, a dealer of farming, mining and construction machinery, employ hundreds more. The corporate headquarters of several companies, including Western Electronics, Arnold Machinery and United Heritage, are located in Meridian.
