Palo Alto College enrolls approximately 8,400 students a year and has a student-to-faculty ratio of 19:1. The college is composed of more than 12 departments devoted to career and technical studies, behavioral and social sciences, accounting and health, among other areas. The Business Management Department offers certificate programs in administration, leadership and supervision; specialized certificate programs in entrepreneurship, international business and marketing are also available. Degree-seeking students can pursue a transferable Associate of Science in Business Administration or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Business Management, which may be more appropriate for office managers.
The 16-credit Administration Level I Certificate program includes courses in communication, customer relations, supervision and team building. Similar coursework can be found in the 24-credit Leadership Level I and Entry-Level Supervision Level 2 curricula; which can include additional topics in decision making, organizational behavior or strategic management. Unique to the AAS in Business Management program are first-year courses in retailing and selling, human resources and international business. In the second year, students also learn about financial, information and project management; business ethics and law; financial accounting and small business management.
