Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree programs are available online for registered nurses, which take about 12 months to complete. Due to the hands-on requirements of the field, these bachelor's degree programs typically combine online classes with in-person clinical rotations. A bachelor's degree provides social sciences, leadership, and critical thinking training not found in nursing diploma and associate's degree programs.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

An online accelerated BSN degree program's curriculum focuses on improving essential nursing skills such as communication and leadership. Students develop new techniques in patient care which they demonstrate in projects assigned by their instructors. These programs are highly selective and usually admit no more than 30 students each 12-month period. All incoming students must be established registered nursing professionals.

Information and Requirements

An online accelerated BSN program can normally be completed in 12 months if taken full-time. Due to the rigorous pace of the degree program, some accelerated BSN program require students to refrain from having full-time employment while enrolled.

The majority of the degree program can be completed online; however, students are required to complete clinical rotations at their local hospital. The degree program is structured in cohorts, which are groups of students who take the same curriculum at the same time and one cohort usually runs for 12 months. Students are given assignments to be electronically delivered by the instructor's deadline and are able to communicate with fellow classmates and instructors.

This course helps introduce registered nurses to professional nursing education. The students will examine the ethical and nursing practices as well as other concepts in this course.
