Program Information

Some of the major ethical issues today are the use of stem cells and human cloning, the use of animals in research and the use of humans as research subjects. Bioethics explores these subjects and many others, taking into consideration the Hippocratic Oath, the American Medical Association code of ethics and other standards upheld by American health care professionals.

Many online courses lead to a master's degree in bioethics. Along with secular schools, these courses and programs can be found at theological colleges and universities, where ethics are guided by religious beliefs. Professionals already employed in the health care industry can pursue an online certificate in bioethics. These courses may also be found in graduate certificates, doctoral degrees and individual classes.

Bioethics courses can be helpful for work in hospitals, public health organizations, nursing homes and the health care and biotechnology industries. Those who work in legal settings, including law offices, medical associations and trade industry groups, may also find bioethics courses useful.

Online bioethics courses are offered through standalone classes, graduate certificates, and master's and doctoral degrees. Students will study topics like the history of bioethics, biotechnology and healthcare policy.
