Online Colleges that Offer Theatre & Communication Degrees

There are a number of things to keep in mind when considering which online theatre and communication school is right for you, including cost and level of study. Students should note that while theatre programs can be difficult to find for remote study, communications programs are more widely available online.

How to Select an Online Theatre and Communication School

Students considering online theatre and communication schools must make their decision based on several key factors. Theatre degree programs are not normally available online, though communications degrees are, at a number of different levels. Theatre and communication students can apply their knowledge and experience to many different careers due to the multi-purpose nature of a communication degree. Students must then weigh their own scheduling requirements.

Program Availability

Degrees that combine theatre and communications are rare even in traditional in-person formats, and there are few, if any, online degree programs in this area. Theatre degrees are not offered online, due to the interactive nature of the theatre discipline and the interpersonal aspects to such a degree program. However, students can enroll in a bachelor's or master's degree in communications, available from various colleges.

Schedule and Time Requirements

Most online degree programs in communications are designed as flexible degree options for working adults. Whether they function as entry-level degrees for a given career or as a pathway to advancement, online bachelor's and master's degrees in communication often do not require students to attend class at any given time or turn in assignments on a strict schedule. Instead, classes can be accessed 24 hours a day, and assignments and tests are generally due on a single day near the end of the class.

There are some online programs that are designed for accelerated completion. These have more strict time requirements. Students should be sure that a degree fits their needs before enrolling.
