  • Intro to Social Work Class: The course teaches student about the history of the social work profession. Individuals learn how social workers interact with various groups of people in many different settings. Students are also introduced to some of the diagnostic and intervention skills professional social workers use regularly.
  • Social Work and Psychology Class: Students learn the various aspects of psychology as it relates to the personality, learning modalities and human development of adults, children and adolescents.   • Social Workers Ethics Class: Instructors and students discuss client rights and ethical dilemmas. Students learn why ethics and values are important for social work professionals, especially as they relate to administration and supervision of clients.
  • Grant Writing and Research Class: Students learn about research and fundraising strategies. At the end, students know how to develop and effectively communicate their ideas, goals and objectives regarding the needs of their clients.
  • Elderly and Chronic Illness Class: This training class teaches students about various chronic illnesses and their effects on the lives of elderly clients. Topics discussed include medications and aging, vision and hearing loss, dementia and pain management.
  • Abuse and the Elderly Class: Students learn how to identify and address elderly abuse, exploitation and neglect. They gain assessment and intervention skills, as well as information about legal aspects and policies surrounding elderly abuse.
  • Human Behavior and the Social Environment Class: In this course, students examine how an individual's social environment impacts their self identity and behavior. Students will learn how factors such as socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and family history play into behavior and how to utilize the understanding of environmental factors in evaluating and treating patients.
  • Introduction to Social Work Research Class: Quantitative and qualitative research will be emphasized in this course with regard to any social work practice. Topics include hypothesis formulation, confidentiality and sampling.
  • Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Class: This course will teach students about drug intervention and how to identify those with drug issues. Mental health problems will also be considered in tandem with referring substance-abusers to treatment centers. Domestic issues and evidence-based treatments will also be examined.
