A Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science program combines study of the science of flight with professional flight training and management studies. Studies range from the history of aviation to the structure of aircraft engines and systems; students also learn to assess weather conditions as they pertain to flight and flight safety.
In order to apply, students must have a high school diploma, possibly with a minimum GPA requirement, and three years of previous coursework in math and science is encouraged. Some programs require students to pass an FAA medical examination prior to enrollment.

Those working as aircraft and avionics equipment mechanics and technicians were projected to see a negligible change in job growth of 1% from 2014-2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The mean annual wage for aircraft mechanics and service technicians was $60,160 in May 2015, stated the BLS.
Continuing Education Information
Graduates of this degree program who undergo flight training can become licensed pilots through the FAA. The FAA offers airline transport, commercial and transportation pilot certification. Certification requires 250 hours of flight experience and a medical exam from a FAA aviation medical examiner. Candidates are also required to take a written and oral examination.
Although it is not possible to earn a Ph.D. in aeronautical science, aspiring pilots and students who want to work in other areas of the aviation industry can get the training they need by earning a bachelor's degree in the field.
