Continuing Education and Certification Information

Graduates who complete these certificate programs alongside bachelor's degree programs in accounting or business can obtain entry-level careers as financial managers or accountants. Those who wish to obtain upper-level positions can enroll in a Master of Science in Accounting Information Systems. Doctoral programs in the field also exist for those individuals who want to perform research in the field or teach accounting and information systems at the postsecondary level.

Employment Outlook and Salary Information

In 2015, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported an annual median salary of $37,250 for bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks, while accountants and auditors earned $67,190. From 2014-2024, the clerks could expect an 8% employment decline, while accountants and auditors could look forward to a 11% increase in job openings, the BLS predicted.

Accounting information systems certificates work in tandem with a bachelor's education to teach students the fundamentals of using information systems for accounting and bookkeeping purposes. Many jobs are open to graduates with this level of education alone, but students can improve their employability and the positions they are qualified for by pursuing graduate education.
