Skilled SQL server professionals can pursue certification from Oracle and Microsoft. Instruction is available online in some instances. Employment Outlook and Salary Info

Graduates who have an SQL server certificate and related work experience may be qualified for entry-level positions as database administrators in small business offices. From 2014 to 2024, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects an 11% growth in employment of database administrators (www.bls.gov). The BLS stated in 2015 that database administrators earned $84,250 as a mean annual wage.

Continuing Education Information

Certificate holders have multiple opportunities to earn an SQL server certification. Oracle and a number of other vendors offer the 9i SQL certification examination. Microsoft offers SQL certification exams at three levels. Designations include the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) and Microsoft Certified Master (MCM). MCM requires passage of the MCITP, which requires passage of the MCTS.

Students in an SQL server certificate program will study the management and analysis of databases in preparation for careers as database administrators. Graduates may wish to pursue SQL certification through several organizations and at various levels.
