Essential Information

Having a Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) degree can help healthcare professionals obtain many top leadership jobs. Although some employers may prefer candidates who hold DHA degrees, it is far more common for employers only to require master's degrees for health administration positions.

Students in DHA programs will spend 3-5 years of full-time study dedicated to applied research pursuits in their field, in addition to writing their dissertation. In comparison, students can complete master's degree programs in health administration within 2-3 years, and most students finish their programs by completing thesis projects, although not all programs require these projects. Graduates from health administration programs can pursue such positions as hospital chief financial officer (CFO), hospital chief executive officer (CEO), and hospital chief operating officer (COO).
