School Selection Criteria

There are a number of things to consider when selecting an electronics technology program.

  • Students might want to consider enrolling in programs that have coursework relevant to obtaining some kind of professional certification or credentialing through an organization such as the National Association of Elevator Contractors.
  • Length of program varies between certificate programs can be completed in 2-3 semesters and an associate's degree program which can take up to two years.
  • Coursework and facilities that include hydraulic systems and print reading may be especially useful to aspiring elevator technicians.
  • Internships give students the chance to gain hands-on experience and if the school offers career planning that can help the student enter into the profession.

Certificate in Electronics Technology

Certificate programs in electronics technology can be completed in 2-3 semesters.

Diploma in Electronics Technology

Diploma programs in electronics technology can typically be completed in two years or less. Coursework can include maintenance procedures, AC and DC currents, wiring, safety and operating systems.

Associate of Applied Science in Electronics Technology

Associate degree programs in electronics technology can be completed in two years and typically include general education courses. Projects and internship experiences may be included at this level. Coursework commonly includes technical writing, machinery controls, digital circuits and electronics systems.
