Schools with CSS Training and Degree Programs: How to Choose

Dec 12, 2019

Students in CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) training programs learn computer programming language used to manage web sites. Training in CSS is usually offered as part of Web development or Web design degree programs. Training is available from entry-level to advanced degree options. Heavy computer use is mandatory, and education can be obtained online or on-campus.

Coupled with learning other computer intricacies and programming languages, CSS training may provide students with a number of computer development and design career possibilities. These programs may be offered by 2-year or 4-year schools across the country.

School Selection Criteria

It is important for students considering getting CSS training to review the following aspects:

  • Not all web development programs may include CSS. Be sure to check both required and elective courses for each program.
  • Variety of programs offers certificate and associate's degree that may be sufficient for entry-level employment, as well as advanced degrees with a wider range of computer skills.
  • Bachelor's degree programs which include CSS may be offered with a few different names, such as web development or information technology.
  • Depending on what level of education is being sought, education is available in either on-campus or online environment.

CSS Programmer Certificate

Students seeking professional careers in information systems or web development can turn to short CSS programming certificate programs. CSS focused certificate programs are sometimes sponsored or accredited by major software manufacturers. The coursework may include CSS page templates and tables, image mapping, site rollovers, and site validation.

Associate of Applied Science in Web Design and Development

These are 2-year degree programs that feature CSS programming as part of a Web design and development course curriculum. Previous familiarity in other computer programming languages should assist those seeking to enter these types of programs. Coursework may be transferable to computer-related 4-year degree programs. Courses cover CSS basics, JavaScript programming, and HTML (HyperText Markup Language).

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

Bachelor's degree programs in information technology generally take about four years to complete and cover various programming languages in depth, including CSS. Students will find it helpful to have some knowledge of other programming languages such as C++ or Java in these types of degree programs. Courses feature web development applications, interactive web page scripting, dynamic website development, CSS coding, and HTML tables and online forms.

CSS may be included in web development programs at the certificate, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree levels.
