Sun Certified Java Programmer certification no longer exists now that Sun has been acquired by Oracle. Current or aspiring software architects, developers and web administrators looking for Java certification can earn a similar credential from Oracle. There are courses that prepare these professionals to pass the certification exams required for Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) credentials in Java programming for SE 6, 7 and 8.
These classes typically last five days and are available at Oracle-approved training centers. Instructor-led and self-study courses are also available online. Students who go on to earn OCP credentials can demonstrate their expertise to future employers. They might also be able to use their certifications to earn credit in a school's degree program.
Some common concepts in these programs are:
- Understanding Java technology and program languages
- Learning to create applications using Java
- Describing what errors are and learning to fix them
- Understanding primitive and current programming languages outside of Java
- Learning to use RMS for mobile devices
