Tinley Park, a village in the Chicago metropolitan area, had a population of 57,280, according to 2014 U.S. census estimates, and occupies about 16 square miles of land area. The median household income for residents of Tinley Park, based on 2010-2014 census data, was nearly $76,000 per year, higher than the Illinois state median of about $57,000.

Tinley Park offers its residents a state-of-the-art recreation facility, the Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center. The facility includes basketball courts, a walking track, indoor playground, gymnastics area and dance studio. The village of Tinley Park has also invested in a network of trails for hiking, riding and cross-country skiing, fishing areas, picnic areas and golf courses. The wider Chicago metropolitan area is home to such attractions as Navy Pier, Michigan Avenue's shopping district and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Higher Education

Tinley Park itself is not home to any public or private non-profit institutions of postsecondary education, but the Chicago metropolitan area is a major center for higher learning and is home to such schools as the University of Chicago and Northwestern University, both of which are ranked in the top 15 universities in the country, according to 2016 ranking data from U.S. News & World Report.

Closer to home, students can find various public and non-profit, private colleges within a 25-mile radius. Trinity Christian College is almost six miles from Tinley Park and offers bachelor's and master's degrees. Saint Xavier University is also in the area and is a private, non-profit school that offers bachelor's and master's degrees along with undergraduate and graduate certificate programs. Governors State University is located in the city of University Park, and the neighboring suburb of Palos Hills hosts Moraine Valley Community College, a two-year school. Moraine Valley is also the largest school in this area, with about 15,200 students as of Fall 2014.

Economy and Employment

In Tinley Park, retail trade employed about 3,500 people, according to 2012 census data. Health care and social assistance employed about 3,100 people, while accommodation and food services employed about 2,600 people. The area is home to numerous Fortune 500 companies, in addition to medical and research centers.
