A member of the Rancho Santiago Community College District, Santa Ana College is a 2-year public school enrolling more than 28,000 students. The Fine and Performing Arts Department offers an Associate in Arts and and a Certificate in Digital Media Arts, as well as a Certificate in 3-D Modeling and Animation.
The Associate in Arts in Digital Media Arts program focuses on Web and graphic design skills. Introductory digital media courses cover basic art concepts, typography, graphic design and 2-dimensional design. Advanced courses include Photoshop, digital design techniques and Illustrator use. Earned credits transfer to a 4-year school.
Students in the Digital Media Arts Certificate program learn the basic techniques and concepts behind Web and graphic design, but do not complete general education courses. Students may choose from either a Web design or a graphic design emphasis. Each emphasis includes courses in digital design, digital media arts and art concepts.
The 3-D Modeling and Animation Certificate program offers four areas of emphasis. Students can choose from art, video game and interactive media art, and previsualization emphases. An introductory course in digital media arts is common to the program regardless of the emphasis chosen. Other coursework is dependent on the area of study and can include storyboarding, art concepts, Photoshop designs, 3-D animation and 3-D commercial applications.
