The University of Nevaga, Las Vegas is a large, urban institution serving just over 29,000 students annually. Its College of Business offers several degree programs to more than 4,000 undergraduate students and 500 graduate students. Given its location in Las Vegas, the college's core curriculum emphasizes local business strengths like entrepreneurship, entertainment management and real estate development.
The Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting program helps students gain a thorough understanding of important business principles. Students in the accounting concentration acquire knowledge and skills to become successful accountants. Beyond classroom instruction, the program provides internship opportunities for students to gain professional training and applicable work experience. Interns are placed in Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firms, government agencies and nonprofit organizations. Graduates should be equipped with statistics, audit and assurance skills.
The Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance program is designed for students interested in corporate management, investment management and financial services. Coursework explores finance markets and institutions, corporate finance and investments. Students also learn about the financial implications underlying business decisions. Students also can complete an internship course for credit and partake in a mentorship program.
The Master of Science in Accounting is a 30-credit-hour program directed toward those interested in advanced careers in public accounting, taxation or corporate accounting. Though electives allow them to customize their studies, students are placed on an education track depending on their focus as an undergraduate. The professional accounting track offers courses in auditing theory and applications, federal tax topics, financial reporting topics, advanced management accounting and issues in financial reporting. This program can be taken full- or part-time, and a bachelor's degree in accounting or business is not required for acceptance. It provides the coursework required for taking Nevada's CPA exam by providing advanced accounting skills and extensive experience with data analysis.
