Courses in make-up artistry can typically be found at schools that offer esthetics or cosmetology programs. Most programs culminate in a Certificate of Completion or an Associate of Applied Science. Here are three noteworthy schools that prepare you for a career as an assistant to a cosmetic surgeon, make-up artist, or skin care specialist. Emerson College was highly ranked by U.S. News and World Report for 2017. Mott Community College has a full-service salon on its campus. And Central Carolina Community College offers an esthetics program that goes beyond the requirements of the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetology.

Emerson College

Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, has facilities in Boston, Los Angeles, and the Netherlands. Emerson College (EC), a 4-year private school specializing in communications and liberal arts, ranked 8th among regional universities in the North, according to U.S. News & World Report in 2017. At Emerson, students can earn a certificate in make-up artistry from the Bobbi Brown Program in Make-Up Artistry. The program emphasizes a 10-step make-up application process and provides training in make-up and lighting techniques for photography, television, and film. Students also learn about the business aspect of cosmetic services and create a professional portfolio.

Mott Community College

Students enrolled in the Certificate in Cosmetic Services program at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan, complete a professional portfolio before graduating. Mott Community College (MCC) is a 2-year public school that has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Associate of Colleges and Schools (HLC/NCA). MCC offers a Certificate in Cosmetic Services that prepares students for the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology aesthetician exam. Once enrolled, aspiring professionals study cleansing methods and learn how to activate skin glands, which can help their clients maintain a healthy body and face. Qualified graduates may pursue careers as make-up artists or assistants to cosmetic surgeons.
