The Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Knoxville (TCAT Knoxville) was established in 1966. The school has a population of about 800 undergraduate students per year. TCAT Knoxville's programs are divided into full-time, part-time, special industry and online programs. The medical assistant diploma program is a full-time program.

The Medical Assistant Diploma program is designed to be completed in one year and requires 1,296 clock hours. Coursework includes anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, phlebotomy, dosage calculations and keyboarding. Students receive hands-on training through the completion of an externship. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
