Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) is a 2-year public school serving nearly 21,000 students each year. Students can attend courses through five campus locations or through virtual programs. The school offers more than 150 programs at the certificate, diploma and associate's degree levels. The Art Department offers programs in five areas of study, ranging from graphic design to fine arts. The Computer Technology Department offers programs in Web design that might appeal to individuals interested in studying computer graphics.

In the Graphic Design Certificate program, students learn how to use graphics and images to communicate messages to a particular audience. The career-centered program teaches students how to use computer technology and software to create and lay out designs. Students have access to Macintosh computer labs and instructors with real-world experience in the graphic design industry. The program consists of 42 credit hours. Students of the Web Development and Design Certificate learn the basics of Web technologies and design techniques and can choose from a general studies, interactive Web media or Web application development options within the program. They learn how to publish designs on the Internet, create high-quality websites, maintain websites and configure operating systems.

The Associate of Arts in Graphic Design program has the same core courses as the certificate program, but also features general education courses. Students complete prerequisites in graphic design foundations, math and English before they can begin the 67-credit program. Upon completion of the program, graduates can transfer their credits to a 4-year college or find employment as graphic designers and graphic artists. The Associate of Arts in Web Development and Design program builds upon the foundational topics covered in the Web development and design certificate program. Additional courses cover topics such as technical writing, English composition, communication and project management. Students are required to complete computer electives, free electives and a capstone Web project.
