Enrolling over 22,000 students, Hillsborough Community College (HCC) is a public, 2-year school with five campuses and three other locations in the Tampa area. Each HCC campus offers students access to computer labs, but the Dale Mabry campus also features the Cisco Network Academy student lab with several routers and switches available for student use. Those students interested in computer programming at HCC can earn the Computer Programming Specialist Certificate, a Computer Programming Certificate, or an Associate of Science in Computer Programming.
The Computer Programming Specialist Certificate covers introductory computer technology, systems analysis, JAVA programming, C programming, C# programming and programming logic, the computer programming specialist certificate is 18 credits in length. Students completing this certificate program may apply the credits earned toward HCC's computer programming associate degree.
At 33 credits in length, the computer programming certificate includes courses in management information systems, Visual Basic programming, programming logic, systems analysis, C++ programming and JAVA programming. Coursework completed as part of the certificate program can be applied to the associate degree. The 63-credit Associate of Science in Computer Programming includes required courses in basic and advanced JAVA programming, UNIX, C# programming, programming logic, database design, computer operation systems, database programming, C++ programming and scripting for the Web. Students must also complete three elective courses and 15 credit hours in general education courses.
