- Winner: Brenau University is located in Gainesville, GA, approximately 50 miles from Atlanta. It is the only not-for-profit school to offer a degree program in fashion merchandising in the Atlanta area. Brenau University was founded in 1878 as Georgia Baptist Female Seminary, but today it offers academic degree programs across four colleges and a graduate school. The school offers associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs to more than 2,800 students each year. The Women's College remains open only to females, but men and women can pursue study through its online and regional schools. The College of Fine Arts and Humanities in the Women's College has an Art and Design Department. This department features a bachelor's degree program in fashion merchandising.
Brenau's fashion merchandising program offers students the opportunity to learn about graphic and interior design and fashion textiles, along with how to market fashion and apparel, analyze fashion trends and operate computer technologies used in the field. Major requirements cover management principles, retailing, apparel evaluation, fashion history, merchandise buying and merchandise promotion. The curriculum involves business and management topics, such as business communications, accounting survey and small business management. Students must complete 65 credit hours dedicated to fashion merchandising topics in addition to general education and liberal arts courses.
