Based on 2016 national rankings by U.S. News & World Report and the wide variety of programs offered, three of the top schools for Christian studies include the University of Notre Dame, Duke University and Mississippi College. The programs at both Notre Dame and Duke are offered exclusively at the graduate level; students at Mississippi College can earn a bachelor's degree.

University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, IN

School Highlight: The graduate school at Notre Dame has 48 master's and 26 doctoral degree programs.

The University of Notre Dame is a Catholic university that ranked #15 on U.S. News & World Report's list of best national universities for 2017. Notre Dame offers a Master of Arts in Early Christian Studies. Students in this program learn ancient languages so they can study Christian literature in original dialects. Other classes include liturgy, philosophy and history.

Duke University in Durham, NC

School Highlight: Duke University has 10 different schools and units offering a variety of programs.

In 2017, Duke University ranked #8 on U.S. News & World Report's survey of the best national universities. The Divinity School is a seminary affiliated with the United Methodist Church. However, the school also offers programs for students who aren't seeking ordination, such as the 1-year Master of Arts in Christian Studies program. This program consists of eight courses designed to help students interpret Scripture and determine their path of service in the church.

Mississippi College in Clinton, MS

School Highlight: Mississippi College offers 80 different areas of study, 16 graduate degree programs and doctorates in jurisprudence, educational leadership, and professional counseling.

The college is associated with the Mississippi Baptist Convention and offers a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies and philosophy. Course topics include Bible studies, Biblical languages and ministry studies.

California Baptist University in Riverside, CA

School Highlight: California Baptist University was ranked within top 50 regional universities in the west in 2017 by U.S. News & World Report

Offering a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies, California Baptist's School of Christian Ministries also provides undergraduate degrees in applied theology, global justice, intercultural studies and philosophy. Some concentrations available for students in the Christian studies program include apologetics, Biblical languages, church history, youth ministry and pastoral leadership.
