Information systems management programs can be found at the undergraduate and graduate degree levels at many highly ranked schools in the U.S. Four of the top schools for information systems management include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Texas at Austin. While the latter offers a specialized undergraduate program in business administration, awards at MIT and Carnegie Mellon are only available at the graduate level. The MIT Sloan School of Management offers a number of degrees in business, including a Master of Science (M.S.) in Management Studies. Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh
Carnegie Mellon University offers a unique Master of Information Systems Management program. Carnegie Mellon is a private university that U.S. News & World Report ranked tied for 24th among national universities for 2017. The School of Information Systems and Management, housed within the H. John Heinz III College, was ranked 2nd by U.S. News & World Report in 2017. Program offerings include a unique Master of Information Systems Management (MISM) with an accelerated option that can be completed in one calendar year. This is an interdepartmental course of study that includes topics in computer science, business, and public policy.
University of Texas at Austin
The University of Texas at Austin (UT) offers an undergraduate information systems management program that placed fifth in the nation for 2017, as designated by U.S. News & World Report.
The school's Department of Information, Risk, and Operations Management (IROM) offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Management Information Systems. The program includes courses in data management, data communications, and system development; students also complete an internship.
University of Minnesota in Minneapolis
The University of Minnesota in Minneapolis (UMM) has an international requirement for undergraduates in the business school. UMM's management information systems program was ranked tied as the third best in the country for 2017 by U.S. News and World Report. The school offers a bachelor's degree in management information systems. Students may try out for the MIS Case Competition Team and earn two elective credits.
