Stanford University offers degree programs from its seven schools, including the School of Humanities and Sciences. Stanford's Institute for Research in the Social Sciences offers five research centers and various programs. In 2013, U.S. News and World Report ranked the school second in political science and first in psychology for graduate-level programs.

University of Chicago in Chicago, IL

School Highlight: The school has offered undergraduate degrees for over 100 years that have taught students how to think critically and independently.

U.S. News and World Report ranked the University of Chicago sixth in sociology in 2013. Social science majors at the University of Chicago can pursue studies in anthropology, history, comparative human development and sociology, among other areas. The school's division of social sciences also offers master's and doctoral degree programs in the social sciences.

University of California - Berkeley, CA

School Highlight: The currently faculty at Berkeley has seven different Nobel Prize winners, and the Social Sciences Division is the largest within the entire university.

U.S. News and World Report ranked UCB first in sociology and second in psychology in 2013. The university's Division of Letters and Science houses Arts & Humanities, Biological Sciences, and Social Sciences. Twelve other departments exist within the Social Sciences department, such as African American Studies, Demography, Ethnic Studies, Gender and Woman's Studies, Linguistics, Psychology and Sociology. Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH

School Highlight: Dartmouth College offers an undergraduate honors degree in quantitative social sciences.
