Founded in 1965, the University of North Florida (UNF) is a public research institution which has garnered significant academic recognition within the region in its less-than-50-year existence. UNF's College of Education and Human Services offers undergraduate and graduate programs, including the university's only doctorate.

Designed to develop expertise in management, educational policy and instructional methods, the Master of Education in Educational Leadership program provides five concentrations to choose from: athletic administration, higher education administration, advanced teaching and learning, school leadership, and educational technology leadership. Students complete courses such as school financial management, effective technology for education and instructional improvement. In order to be admitted to the research-intensive Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership program, students must possess a master's degree as well as three years of teaching experience or a background in educational development. In addition to passing written and oral exams and completing a dissertation, students take courses in subjects like educational philosophy, the evolution of educational leadership and social aspects of instruction.
