Concorde Career College is a for-profit institution that specializes in offering career-oriented programs in the healthcare field. Its 16 campuses are spread across eight states. The Memphis campus offers 20 healthcare-related programs, some of which can be completed in as little as nine months. Some examples include programs in medical assisting, dental assisting and radiologic technology. Students interested in studying surgical technology can enroll in either a diploma or an associate's degree program.

The Surgical Technology Diploma program can be completed in 12 months and is designed to provide students with the core skills necessary to earn an entry-level position as a surgical technologist. Students learn how to provide assistance to surgeons and other surgical staff members during all stages of surgical procedures. They also learn specific duties, such as how to provide a sterile operating environment, how to recognize and pass on necessary instruments to surgeons, and how to maintain an inventory of surgical supplies.

Students enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology program are required to learn the same core skills as students in the diploma program. However, the associate degree program can take up to 17 months to complete and involves the completion of additional general education courses. Students can prepare to become scrub assistants, who are responsible for handling supplies and maintaining a sterile operating environment; circulating assistants, who monitor operating rooms and stock equipment; or second assistants, who provide aid to the first surgical assistants in the middle of procedures.
