Utah is not just rocky desert. Snow-capped mountains and river valleys also make up the landscape of Utah. According to the data book at the website of the state's governor, the vast majority of Utah's approximately 2.9 million residents live in urban areas known as the Wasatch Front. This collection of cities - connected by suburban areas - is along the western base of the Wasatch Range (hence the name.) The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported an average hourly wage of $22.33 across all occupations in the state as of May 2017. The unemployment rate in Utah was 3.1%, according to the BLS, in April 2018.
