International Business MBA: Overview

IMBA programs are offered by graduate business departments at colleges and universities across the nation. These programs are becoming more popular as business firms as well as state and federal governments are increasingly seeking employees who are well-versed in global trends as they pertain to both financial markets and consumer buying.

Students of IMBA programs will sometimes have the option to specialize in a particular language or culture, such as Chinese, Japanese, or German. This is especially recommended for students who intend to work in and with countries where English is not the national language. Because of this, some programs require foreign language proficiency or at least proof of having taken several courses in a foreign language.

Curriculum and Study Abroad

This degree program is meant to help students develop cultural skills and business competencies as they pertain to the global marketplace. Some course requirements may include the economics of international trade, international marketing management, international business management, and international corporate finance.

Some IMBA program requires students to study abroad. This is most easily done by those students who are taking their MBA program at full-time status. Students may want to check their potential school's website to see if the school has international campuses or is affiliated with schools overseas.

Graduates with an international business MBA can work in a variety of business fields, such as marketing and finance, for companies and organizations that work internationally. Study abroad opportunities in foreign language requirements are often included in the degree program.
