California Schools with Accelerated MBA Programs

California State University-Long Beach

California State University-Long Beach has a full-time accelerated MBA program that centers on entrepreneurship and innovation. The program totals 48 units and can be completed in 22 months through a cohort model. Students take classes during the day and must complete an internship experience where they work 20 to 40 hours a week. The program concludes with a business plan project that students enter into the Innovation Challenge competition to compete for prizes.

University of Southern California

The University of Southern California in Los Angeles offers a unique 1-year MBA program that is designed for mid-career professionals. The program has an international focus and includes global travel for various forums and consulting projects. Students complete a capstone experience that requires them to finish an International Business Case Project for a real client over a 4-month period. The program also offers students career development opportunities as well as a variety of scholarships and other funding options.

Pepperdine University

Pepperdine University in Malibu has an accelerated MBA program that offers a 12-month or 15-month plan of study. Students take the program full-time, and each option allows students to study abroad. The 12-month MBA option is designed for students with an undergraduate degree in business. Its 49-unit curriculum for non business majors offers concentrations in finance and marketing as well as a Socially, Environmentally, and Ethically Responsible (SEER) certification. The 15-month option totals 61 units and has additional concentrations in dispute resolution, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation systems as well as entertainment, media and sports management.

Holy Names University

Holy Names University in Oakland provides an accelerated MBA program that can be completed in 12 months. In order to finish the program in 1 year, students must take 2 courses for each 7-week term. Students can complete a concentration in management and take courses in the evenings and on weekends for flexibility. Students in the program still have access to study centers, business support centers, libraries and other resources.

Marymount California University

Marymount California University in Rancho Palos Verdes offers an MBA program that can be completed in 1 year when taken full-time. Coursework is offered online, in the evenings or on weekends, and students must complete a total of 36 units. The program does require a capstone experience and allows students to take 2 elective courses. The curriculum also includes a leadership seminar and a course in business writing for professional development.

Common Entrance Requirements

Students applying to accelerated MBA programs in California must have at least a bachelor's degree and may need to meet a minimum GPA requirement. Although some of these programs do not require the GMAT or GRE, many programs do, and some even require specific minimum scores to be met. Accelerated MBA programs might also require students to have a minimum number of years of work experience that can range from about 1 to 6 years, depending on the program. Applicants usually need to include their transcripts, a resume and a personal statement or essay. Some programs may also ask for letters of recommendation and/or a video statement of purpose in place of a traditional written document.

Most accelerated MBA programs in California allow students to earn their degree in 1 year. Often, courses for these programs are offered in flexible schedules, include hands-on learning through projects or internships and allow students to focus their studies in a particular area.
