An accelerated MBA program is one that can be completed in less time than traditional programs that often require 24 months or more. Students in an accelerated program can expect to earn their MBA in about 12-16 months. This article describes the programs and admittance requirements for five schools in the Philadelphia area.
La Salle is located in the Glenside district about six miles from Center City Philadelphia. The university offers a one-year MBA program to students with an undergraduate degree in business (or a minor in business). Prior work in business is not required, but applicants without a business-related degree will need to take pre-MBA courses. The one-year program requires students to enroll full time in the fall and spring semesters. They also attend winter and summer sessions. Students can choose from one of four areas of concentration:

Thomas Jefferson University is located on Walnut Street close to Philadelphia's Center City. Students at Jefferson can complete the full-time Innovation MBA program in one year. The program is intended for recent graduates as well as working professionals who wish to return to school. Students with a business background can qualify for a waiver from the 9-credit foundation courses. Students have the opportunity to go on an international Innovation Trip, where a course component is taught abroad. The Innovation MBA program has the following nine areas of concentration:

- Business Analytics

Arcadia is a private, not-for-profit university located on the historic property of Grey Towers in Glenside, about 10 miles from Philadelphia's Center City. Arcadia offers an accelerated ''MBA with a Global Perspective'' program over a one-year period. Students must take two courses at a time, which are given in the evenings twice a week. An international travel study trip is a required part of this program. The areas of concentration are:
Eastern University offers students the option of earning a fast-track MBA in Management at its campus in Center City Philadelphia. Classes can be taken on-campus one evening per week. Online course formats are also available. The curriculum includes 36 credits that can be completed in 12 months.
The main campus of this university is located in Bloomsburg, PA, but there is another location in downtown Philadelphia. Students can pursue an accelerated MBA program that is completed in one year. Two courses are taken every two months. Instruction is delivered through a combination of online courses and weekend sessions.
School Admission Requirements
This section summarizes the admission requirements for each of the above schools.
Prospective MBA students will need to submit transcripts from a four-year undergraduate degree, a resume, and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores. This latter requirement can be waived for applicants who have an undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher from a program accredited by the AACSB.
A bachelor's degree is required for admission to Jefferson University's MBA program. GMAT/GRE scores are not required.
Applicants will need a bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Completed accounting, finance, and economics courses are also required along with two letters of recommendation from employers or professors and a minimum of three years of work experience (less work experience could be needed for applicants who have strong undergraduate records). A current professional resume and a completed 'Statement of Intent to Study Abroad' round out requirements. GMAT/GRE scores are optional unless an applicant has an undergraduate GPA of less than 3.0.
Applicants to Eastern will need official transcripts from an accredited school. A GPA of 2.5 or higher is required as is an essay stating an applicant's goals and how attending the MBA program at Eastern will help them achieve those goals. Applicants must also submit a resume that includes two references.
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, three letters of recommendation, a description of career goals, and a resume. A GMAT/GRE waiver is available depending on students' academic or professional experience.
