Career Definition of an Applications Training Specialist

Applications training specialists are tasked with ensuring that programs are in place that enable staff to learn how to use specific computer applications. Their goal is to ensure that employees know how to use the computer applications. In order to do this they must evaluate new applications. Once they've ensured that the applications work correctly and perform the required functions they begin to determine the best approach to training employees to use those applications effectively. They set up specific training objectives, design a training program and create the needed materials. They may also produce supporting documents that explain the functions of applications they're introducing.

Once they have a program in place they assess it to ensure that the training meets their objectives. They must also consider the users and ensure that the training is accessible to them and meets their needs, so it is important that they understand the practical uses for the applications in their workplace. They also continue to evaluate new training programs and materials to determine if there are resources they should incorporate into their training to further improve employee skills. These specialists may set up computer-based training programs or they might instruct employees directly and show them how to use new applications.
