Army ROTC Programs in Florida
Becoming a member of the Army ROTC is a great way to add to your education and fast track a career as a top-ranking official in the US military. The colleges listed below offer some of the best ROTC programs in the state as well as great educational programs.
Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University
This university is an affordable option for college that is also home to the ROTC Rattler Battalion. The Army ROTC program at FAMU is intense and requires all enrolled students to take one military science course each year. Although most students complete this training in 4 years, if one decides to enroll as a junior or a graduate student FAMU also offers a four-week intensive program over the summer called Basic Camp. All students who complete the training as part of the Rattler Battalion or Basic Camp will go on to serve as officers in the Army, National Guard, or Army Reserve after graduating.
Florida Southern University
Alumni of Florida Southern University's Army ROTC program include several Army generals. Florida Southern University is an expensive college, but as a member of their Moccasin Battalion it is possible to have your entire education paid for. ROTC scholarships cover room and board and supplies for class. Students also receive a stipend of $300 to $500 if they are awarded this merit-based scholarship. This scholarship is available for all students in Army ROTC, however unique to FSU's ROTC program are extracurricular opportunities for travel and athletic competitions.
University of Florida
The University of Florida's Army ROTC program does not require all its students to serve as officers. It is possible to take part in this program in school only or to commit to becoming an officer after graduation. UF has also partnered with local high schools, and divides its cadets into Senior ROTC, who are enrolled at UF, and Junior ROTC, who are high school recruits. This relationship becomes one of mentorship, in which the Senior ROTCs watch over and support the Junior ROTCs.
University of Tampa
The ROTC program at the University of Tampa can be a great way to gain an education from this highly ranked college. The school offers over 200 areas of study. Graduates from the program are trained to be leaders in the military and are required to serve on either active duty or in the Army Reserve or National Guard. UT will help students who choose to work in the Army Reserve or National Guard with finding the right job. This program also provides unique opportunities to its members, with travel and leadership opportunities only available to members of UT's Army ROTC.
Florida International University
Florida International University is the home of the Southern Strike Battalion. This program offers all the benefits that other ROTC programs including full tuition assistance. It also offers a great location in the bustling city of Miami. Graduates from the Army ROTC program at FIU can go on to work in the Active Army, the Reserve, or the National Guard. This program prepares students to be leaders in whichever area of the Army they choose.
