Career Definition of a Bank Facilities Manager
A bank facilities manager will take charge of day-to-day operations of one or more bank locations. This may include retail branch locations or more traditional office or corporate locations. Job duties will typically include interacting with office and bank staff, ordering and/or completing maintenance requests, and could also involve ensuring security procedures are being followed correctly and monitoring alarm and/or data systems. Depending on whether bank property is owned or leased, the facilities manager may be in charge of landlord relationships and preparing or managing the individual facility improvement budgets for each location.

To work as a bank facilities manager individuals will typically need a bachelor's degree. This could be a broad based degree such as a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Business, or a more specific program, such as a B.S. in Facilities Management. Most positions will also require some degree of experience in the field of facility management and some knowledge of commercial real estate leasing, maintenance, and cost planning. It is also plausible some banks would include experience in the financial services industry, especially if the previous role involves some sort of facilities or operational aspect.
Bank facilities managers will often be the liaison between bank staff and their commercial landlord. Facility managers will also be in charge of ordering and overseeing vendor work, which will most likely involve direct contact with multiple contractors and/or bank employees. For this reason, facility managers will most likely be required to have excellent communication and customer service skills. It is likely for a facility manager to be required to manage leasing, planning, or real estate code issues, so knowledge in these areas would be viewed positively by a prospective employer as well. It is also possible the facilities manager may need to demonstrate budgeting skills while managing funds for tenant improvement or repairs for the various locations they manage.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that jobs for administrative services managers are expected to grow by 10% from 2016-2026. The BLS also notes that employment in the business and financial operations sector is projected to grow by 10% from 2016-2026. Both of these statistics point towards above average growth, as banks continue to maintain their physical retail and corporate presences in the U.S.
Salaries for bank facilities managers will often depend on how many locations the individual is placed in charge of. The BLS states the median salary for administrative services managers as of May 2017 is $94,020.
