The four Baptist-affiliated colleges in Alabama are diverse in their size, spiritual opportunities, degree programs and other characteristics. Here students can explore and compare schools to help make an informed enrollment decision.

Judson College

Judson College is an all-women's undergraduate school with about 330 students and a student-to-faculty ratio of 9 to 1. The school offers an associate degree program in nursing and diverse bachelor's degree majors that include English, criminal justice, psychology, religious studies, social work, music, equine studies, business, education and more. The school is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist Convention and has a unique Office of Faith-Based Service and Learning to help students serve local and global communities. The college also has an outdoor laboratory and several athletic teams, including equestrian, volleyball, basketball, tennis, softball and more.

Samford University

Samford University was founded in 1841 by the Alabama State Baptist Convention and currently has over 5,500 students with a student-to-faculty ratio of 13 to 1. Students can pursue bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as several undergraduate and graduate certificates. These degree programs cover a wide range of subjects, including divinity/ministry, the arts, psychology, law, healthcare, family and consumer science, business, and education.

In 2018, The Wall Street Journal and Forbes, Inc. named the school Alabama's #1 Top Ranked University, and U.S. News and World Report ranked the university #3 in the South among Regional Universities. The school has 17 NCAA Division I teams and plenty of student organizations and clubs, as well as spiritual activities, such as home groups, spiritual retreats and biweekly worship services. The university offers a scholarship for freshman students interested in global mission trips.

Selma University

Selma University is a Bible college accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education. The school enrolled 165 undergraduate students and had a student-to-faculty ratio of 19 to 1 in 2016. Students can earn an associate's, bachelor's or master's degree in areas such as pastoral counseling, Biblical studies, business administration, nursing assisting, biology and physical education. The school is an historically black university and has been serving students for over 100 years. Every student is required to complete a certain amount of Christian service based on their degree level prior to graduation. Activities for this service could include involvement in preaching and pastoring, evangelistic ministries, and singing in the choir. The school offers men's and women's basketball as well as men's baseball.

University of Mobile

The University of Mobile is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention and has over 1,400 students with a student-to-faculty ratio of 13 to 1. The school offers associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs in areas like computer science, education, healthcare, child development, religious music, psychology, religious studies, math, speech and business. The school boasts a number of top honors, including U.S. News and World Report's #1 Best Regional Colleges in the South for Veterans and #5 Best Regional Colleges in the South overall in 2018.

For their spiritual development, students can participate in various spiritual activities and organizations, including Project Serve, a day of volunteering; the Bridge, a shadowing experience with a church-planter; and Youth Hostel Missions, an international three-week backpacking trip. Undergraduate students enrolled full time must attend ten chapel services per semester. Students may also participate on different athletics teams, such as cross country, tennis, soccer, basketball and golf.
