Overview of North Carolina Baptist Colleges
These Baptist colleges have a variety of program offerings available, while also maintaining a strong faith-centered campus life in North Carolina. Online programs are available, as well as programs geared toward military families and veterans.
Campbell University offers over 150 programs in 10 areas of study. Along with on-campus degrees, Campbell offers several bachelor's degrees, certificates, and associate's degrees online. Some of the ones that are offered wholly online are criminal justice, accounting, information technology, healthcare management, psychology, and homeland security. With many online programs and extended campuses, Campbell is very military-friendly, providing tuition assistance, spousal financial assistance, GoArmyEd assistance, and Veteran's Affairs officials. In fact, as of 2018, there were more than 700 enrolled veterans at Campbell University. For the spiritual side of the college, students can join ministry groups, go on retreats, or join community outreach projects.
Conservative values, such as men and women living separately, can be found at Shaw University. At Shaw, there are two all-men residence halls and two all-women residence halls. The smaller class sizes support an intimate educational setting with professors who know each student's name. Shaw University has four majors with specific program accreditation on top of the school's overall accreditation: kinesiotherapy, social work, divinity, and teacher education. Shaw believes it is important to introduce first-year students to postsecondary education with a first-year program that includes an orientation, freshman seminars, a mentoring program, and spiritual seminars.
University of Mount Olive
In 2015-2016, 98% of full-time beginning undergraduate students received financial aid at the University of Mount Olive, and each year the school provides over $8 million in institutional scholarships to its students. Mount Olive offers 40 majors along with master's degree programs in nursing, business, and education. Campus life is rich with organizations and spiritual outlets. Worship is held each Wednesday, as well as smaller groups and Bible studies throughout the week. Each year, the campus ministry provides a theme for students to focus their faith on, such as 'putting our faith into action,' which urges students to take part in outreach programs and ways to better the community. Since one of the principles of Christianity is to care for the well-being of others, Mount Olive has been a tobacco-free campus since 2013.
At Gardner-Webb University, students have the opportunity to complete their degrees, whether through degree completion programs, traditional programs, or online learning. TheBestColleges.org has named Gardner-Webb's healthcare management program as one of the '25 Best Bachelor's in Healthcare Administration Online,' while U.S. News & World Report has named Gardner-Webb's program the number one online MBA for veterans in the Carolinas. The school wants to be sure to increase spiritual growth while students learn. The Dimensions program brings in guest speakers and topical studies to strengthen the community bond and spiritual life. Full-time students are expected to attend a total of 40 dimensions events over the course of their program.
Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary offers programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree levels, along with certificates. Some of the bachelor's programs include Christian counseling, history, global studies, justice and social ethics, and student ministry. Any student who takes part in a Bachelor of Arts degree program will complete a minor in Christian Studies.
