If a company's computer system goes down, productivity seems to come to a standstill, thus making information technology (IT) jobs a vital part of all organizations. Most entry-level positions do require a minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or other related field, while an associate's degree or a high school diploma with related experience may be adequate for some positions.

Though experience is a benefit in several positions, little to no prior work experience is required for the following jobs, making them suitable for an entry-level job seeker. The job growth outlook for most IT positions is faster than average, and this article is going to take a look at some of the best options.

Information on the Best Entry-Level IT Jobs

Software Developer

With a predicted job growth of 24% through 2026, an entry-level position as a software developer can let individuals with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field put their degree to good use. Software developers, as the title implies, develop software to meet the requirements of their employers and/or clients, which may be either application (app) software or systems software. They are responsible for the complete development process, including analyzing the program or application's needs, designing the program or app, and performing testing. Software developers will work closely with the programmers and, in some cases, may actually be responsible for writing the code for the software.

Computer Network Support Specialist

An entry-level position as a computer network support specialist, with a median annual salary of $62,340, may be a great option for anyone with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field; however, this position may also be a great option for those who have an associate's degree and some related experience, since that is all that many employers require. Computer network support specialists are responsible for maintaining an organization's various networks, including local area networks (LANs) and the Internet. Their responsibilities include installing and maintaining any necessary hardware and software to keep the networks operating properly, as well as performing routine backups and troubleshooting a variety of network-related issues.

Information Security Analyst

The fastest growing area in the field of information technology is cyber security, and information security analysts have a predicted job growth of 28% through 2026, making this an excellent career option. Information security analysts are responsible for protecting their organization's computer systems from being maliciously breached, damaged and/or hacked. In addition to installing security software and continuously monitoring the computer systems, information security analysts are involved in training employees on proper security measures as well as creating emergency plans. A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science or a related field is required. Some employers prefer to hire those with prior work experience for this job, though the requirements are generally less than five years of experience, per the BLS.

Database Administrator

Database administrators are the ones who are responsible for ensuring that the databases, which are where the myriad of data accumulated, accessed and utilized by organizations is stored, are maintained to ensure proper access and optimum efficiency. This may include creating databases; categorizing and restoring data; and installing upgrades; as well as managing database security. Database administrator positions can be found in all industries and in companies both large and small. A bachelor's degree in computer science or other related field, such as information technology, is required.

Web Developer

If you would like to combine your creative skills with your computer skills, then a job as a web developer may be a good choice. Web developers build websites using a combination of coding languages (like JavaScript) and programming software to meet the requirements and needs of their employers and/or clients. After listening to and working with the client regarding what they want and need for their website, website developers then use their programming language skills to build the site, coordinating with graphic designers and others as necessary to incorporate audio, graphics and other features.

With a median annual salary of $67,990 and a job growth outlook of 15%, entry-level web developer positions are a great option, since even those with just a high school diploma and experience can find positions. However, many positions require a minimum of an associate's degree; it all depends upon previous experience and the specific employer.
