Biomedical Engineer

Biomedical engineers are skilled in the medical, biological and engineering sciences. They use their knowledge in these fields to design different kinds of medical equipment and computer systems. For example, they may design software programs that run x-ray machines and other pieces of medical equipment. They also may be involved in research and work on a team with other professionals, like physicians and medical scientists. Over the next ten years, career opportunities are expected to grow by 23%, much more quickly than the average of 6% for all other careers. To become a biomedical engineer, you will need a bachelor's degree in the subject or another engineering field.

Computer and Information Systems Manager

A computer and information systems manager, or information technology (IT) manager, is a technology professional responsible for managing all the computer activities of a company or organization. This includes taking inventory of a company's current computer and technology equipment and making decisions regarding whether upgrades and new purchases are necessary. When determining new purchases, they generally have a budget they must work within; they also oversee the installation of any new equipment. As managers, they may also be in charge of all the other IT employees, like software developers and systems analysts. This job field will experience 15% growth over the next decade. To become a computer and information systems manager, you will need a bachelor's degree in computer and information science along with five or more years of work experience.

Forensic Science Technician

Forensic science technicians are experts at analyzing crime scenes. They arrive on scene and figure out the best way to collect evidence. This includes taking photographs, recording details regarding where pieces of evidence are located, and collecting physical pieces of evidence. When they are back in the laboratory, they run various chemical and biological tests on the pieces of evidence. They may work with experts in other fields, like toxicology, in order to better understand the results of these tests. From now until 2024, this field is expected to grow by 27%, so there will be many job opportunities. To become a forensic science technician, you will most likely need a bachelor's degree or higher in a field like forensic science or chemistry, along with on-the-job training.

Atmospheric Scientist

Atmospheric scientists, sometimes called meteorologists, are experts in weather and climate. There are a number of different types of atmospheric scientists. Some of them may work in TV news stations as broadcast meteorologists. They forecast the weather for the public and warn them against upcoming storms and weather systems. Others are climatologists, which involves the study of weather patterns in the past in order to predict what the weather could be like in the future. This field is projected to grow by 9% over the next decade. To become an atmospheric scientist, you will generally need a bachelor's degree in meteorology. Some more research-oriented positions may require a Ph.D.


As a geoscientist, you will be involved with studying the composition of the Earth. You may work in the field, collecting samples of soil or rock, in order to take them back to a laboratory to analyze. You also may be responsible for looking at aerial photos in order to predict whether natural resources are present. There are various types of geoscientists, including paleontologists, geologists, and geophysicists. In ten years, this field will grow by 10%, so there will be job opportunities available. To become a geoscientist, you will need a at least a bachelor's degree.
