Are business certificates worth it?

While many graduate students choose to pursue an MBA to further their business career, others complete business certificate programs for many different reasons. First, business certificate programs involve fewer classes, and thus cost less than MBAs. However, students in business certificate programs may not qualify for all financial aid, as these certificates are considered non-degree programs. Typically, a business certificate can be finished in a few months, while an MBA usually takes about two years. Therefore, it is considered a quicker return on your investment than an MBA.

Also, business certificates teach skills specific to certain disciplines, making it a great option for those already in a specific field. For example, those in marketing may want to learn more about analytics, which a business certificate can teach quickly and effectively. Finally, those starting their careers may not be able to afford a full MBA program immediately, and a business certificate gives a perfect introduction to an MBA, if they choose to go back to school.
